Douglas Melling is an integral part of our operation at HH Performance Horses. He waters, feeds, cleans stalls, unsaddles, brushes, tacks up, etc. He is a good rider and is now starting to take up Ranch Sorting.
Douglas started going to barrel races when he was three days old. He is savvy to the barrel racing world, lingo, what makes a good barrel horse, etc. He's been listening to Holly give lessons now for years and could just about give them himself.
Beyond our ranch, Douglas enjoys playing baseball. He has been playing for six years. He has played various positions, but is a great second baseman.
Another interest for Douglas is history. One of the reasons we moved to Texas in the first place was because his grandmother was from Texas and taught him about Texas history from the time he could talk. He can tell you all about the Alamo, the Battle of San Jacinto, Goliad, Gonzales, and all the heroes on both sides of the battles. He also loves other U.S. History, with a particular interest in the Civil War. We had family members involved in the conflict on both sides. He has been to Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, Antietem, and Point Lookout. He has aspirations of becoming a history professor.
If you're here for boarding, lessons, a clinic, or just to say hello, odds are you'll see Douglas out working hard watering while wearing replica pistols, swords, etc. He is a hoot!
